CFD Modelling for Building Environments

cfd-featureComputational fluid dynamics (CFD) is a technique used to modelling the behaviour of fluids. In building design it can be used to model the movement and temperature of air within spaces.

This is important as it allows designers to investigate the temperature distribution and air movement within buildings before they are built, allowing them to test options and select the most effective solutions.

CFD can be a useful tool for modelling:

  • the comfort of occupants
  • the distribution of environmental conditions within a space
  • the effectiveness of building services, e.g. positioning of air inlets, extracts or radiators
  • the consequences of fire, e.g. the spread of heat and smoke
  • the effectiveness of natural ventilation
  • the build up of heat in specialist spaces, e.g. server rooms
  • the positioning of sensors, e.g. to ensure that sensor-driven heating and cooling operation is efficient
  • the impact of a new building on air movement around a site
  • wind analysis and pedestrian & external comfort
  • the flow distribution in data centres
  • pollution dispersion among buildings
  • clean room simulations

The Green Crane Consulting experienced CFD engineers are here to help you to push the design boundary for a better design, optimise the air flow in and around buildings, increase the comfort level, encourage natural ventilation, and give designer the confidance of any innovative and new design solution. So if you would like to carry out CFD simulations for your project, contact us today!
